Talking Cock: Know what you are saying

I was talking to a friend I met last week end from a social dinner.

This guy, lets call him A is very talkative and talks alot about the world and how everything is in such a mess. Me, being involved in the latest trends and news and everything technological, I find it hard to accept some of his statement. Basically, we had a very interesting argument and me being me, just have to win.

Well, I'm not just wanting to win but I'm trying to figure out where is he coming from to have these way of thinking. What are the things that is influencing his thoughts? His network of friends? His personal experience in other countries? The books/magazines/newspaper he reads? The movies he is watching? It could be anything. And I have to be respectful, because he is a few years older than me and could potentially know what he is talking about afterall.

Here are some of the things that he said (potentially offending to certain parties):

  • The Americans are the ones that work from behind the scenes, and snatch like a snake. (bloody hell, that's one very brave and stupid statement to make)
  • Everyone today thinks only for thier ownself. Everyone is a Punk devil.
  • The media is so biased these days, and it's causing skeptism in the way people thinks.

A obviously doesn't know what he is talking about yet he is so grumpy about how everything is wrong. What's wrong with everything being wrong? You, as someone being part of this world should be either adapt into the country environment or work hard to make it a better place, not to complaint about it.

He appeared to be an intelligent guy from the way he speaks but what he said doesn't have any direction at all.

As Neil would have said on intelligence.

What is intelligence? Some would say it's shown by articulacy. To that I would counterpose Joey Tribiani, well known for learning his lines, being articulate yet not having a clue what he's talking about. Some would say it's being perceptive. I would add being systematic, analytical, curious, questioning and sceptical but not cynical.

Bottom line is, don't talk cock.

my personal take on this:

i think it happens when one falls under generalisation views and stereotypically ignorant. they wanna give themselves credits for what they strongly believe, and when they were to ask for indepth views, they might stone or give u lists of reasons and rantings. If there isn't strong enough explanation to make judgement, it's mostly due to lacking of interest or careful observation. Such people i call, LOST & IGNORANT. Not that they're intelligent or not. Ain't got nothing to do with intelligence.

Also, such people like them love repeating themselves because they are actually DEPRESSED without themselves knowing it. DEPRESSED becoz they disagree too much. So much just to prove themselves right, to quote Peter Bilak, they forgot that in the fight of the empirical vs spiritual, emptiness vs form, heaven vs earth, science vs religion, subject vs object, etc..no-one is a winner, everyone is.

So... Lost and Ignorant, and Depressed. Speaking like a very experienced person, Y.

Yah, I agree with your opinions. It's true. One may say: Most things that we don't like tend to be the things that we are most ignorant about, or know least about.
