Sugar Plum Fairy gets a jazz makeover

Ellington fans have a treat in-store when the leading British expert in his music, saxophonist and clarinettist Pete Long, comes to the college to join the RNCM Big Band, performing an overview of classics from Ellington's 50-year output. Central to the programme is his enchanting re-working of Tchaikovsky's Suite from the Nutcracker. The concert is complemented by a number of associated events: at 4pm there is an open rehearsal for the evening concert in the theatre – entry is free with a ticket for the evening concert; at 6.30 our very own saxophone maestro, and leader of the college's Jazz Studies course, Mike Hall, can be heard in the Lecture Theatre in conversation with Pete Long about Ellington's life and works – again, free with a ticket to the concert. Finally at 10pm , you can catch some of the college's up-and-coming jazz stars as they play for free in the college bar.
